About Me
I am a non-traditional, first-year graduate student at University of Missouri-Kansas City. I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BA in English and a minor in Art History. Since then, I have been working in Columbia and Kansas City public schools as a teaching assistant and substitute teacher. Interacting with students of diverse ages, abilities, backgrounds, and developmental needs has engaged my mind and heart, helping to develop my capacity as a pre-teacher and all around human being.
As an English educator, my job goes far beyond teaching reading and
writing. A pluralistic perspective on literacy includes how students
make sense of their lives and how they critique texts that may
marginalize or exlude voices, stories, or experiences.
